I think Ma Huang is the leading herbal remedy for asthma in terms of publicity but am inclined to think very few people would be able to treat asthma effectively with Ma Huang alone. The Chinese don’t. I used Ma Huang on an intermittent basis between June 1996 and March 1997, though not as the exclusive remedy. There is danger of interaction between the alkaloids in Ma Huang, especially ephedrine, and prescription drugs, especially if caffeine has to be avoided when taking Foradil. I am not familiar with Foradil. Anybody on such a prescription drug would be advised to consult with the doctor or pharmacist before using a higher-risk herb such as Ma Huang. Anybody who would use a mixed herb and/or vitamin-mineral diet or allergy formula from a drug or health food store is advised to read the ingredients carefully, don’t just take their word that it’s great for allergies, losing weight or whatever.

And has been implicated in heart attacks and strokes. Bad stuff! Ted
Response:
If doctor won’t take you off Foradyl and you find the drug disagreable, looks like you need to find a new doctor. BTW Ma Huang sounds like a particularly bad recommendation if your pump is already going flipity-flop.—jack
