I have ragweed allergy and asthma.  The allergy doesn’t affect the asthma, just turns my nose into a perpetual faucet.  I used to take Seldane, now take Allegra, and it works just fine as long as I am not so insane as to walk through a field of the stuff. Chris Owens

Oddly enough, even though I live in the ragweed capital of the world, it doesn’t bother me.  Something that blooms in the spring drives me nuts, but ragweed is fine. we live in NY, and the ragweed is pollenating earlier this season due to the shortage of rain. Normally, my daughter and husband start suffering a few weeks into September. >So far it takes me a good month to get back on track after a simple cold. >Does anyone else have rag weed allergy and asthma? how does it effect you? >What meds do you take to help it?

my daughters asthma is mostly due to alleriges. But, when she gets a cold, it takes her about a month or so to get her lungs cleared up too. For a cold, she sometimes has to take Prelone, (an oral steroid) and Vanceril DS (an inhaled steroid) depending on the severity of the cold. I also start giving her the VancerilDS at the start of allergy season to keep the asthma under some sort of control. Her regular maintenance medication is Singulair, with Albuterol as needed for the occasional wheeze. Good luck! Donna
