Fear of Seravent
Question:
: >> day. I had been using it about twenty puffs a day. 20 puffs a day is very high and can be dangerous (see package insert) It is possible that you may need an inhaled steroid in addition to the Servent. : >> : >> I’ve just heard that because Seravant is so much stronger, I am creating a : >> greater dependence over the long term, and might be creating some new : >> problems for myself. : >> I am not sure about the dependence part of this. I asked my doctor about this, as well as my pharmacist and they both agreed that a physical/biological dependence does not occur with Serevent in the same way that it does with nicotine, etc. However, you may be DEPENDENT on it because you need it to keep your asthma in check. I have only been on Serevent for 3 months and for the past 2 weeks have been on a 8 puff per day protocol of this and my flovent (inhaled steroid) as well as Prednisone as a bad cold was increasing the potential for me to have another bad attack. This heavy duty protocol has kept me out of hospital and I have only had 2 or 3 very mild attacks as opposed to being in Status Asthmaticus like I was last time I got a bad chest cold. : Hi! I have been using Serevent for more than year with extremely good : rresults. I also use Pulmicort and Atrovent. Serevent: 2 puffs in the : morning and 2 in the evening, actually every 12 hours. No problem and : I never have to other bronchodilatator any more! Yves that’s great Yves…good to hear that it is working for you too ! Amber

reson for this is that the bronchodilator is long acting to help people get through the night without wheezing.I have been using it for about 2 years and seems to work well without side effects. Colleen

I just made the switch from Alupent to Seravent with initially positive results. I now use Seravent one puff AM and one PM. I carry the Alupent for acute problems but so far haven’t had to use it more than one puff a day. I had been using it about twenty puffs a day. I’ve just heard that because Seravant is so much stronger, I am creating a greater dependence over the long term, and might be creating some new problems for myself. Is this true???? This has me quite worried. I’d REALLY appreciate any experience or insight…. Thanks!
