Thanks Colin Ozone is just as bad for me as smoke.  If you can belive it, I once went to a new pulmonologist, (Once is the key word) and he had carpets in the exam room, had ozone producing air cleaners and my husband found candles that had been burning in the office.  Luckly I wasn’t there long, and had persistant attacks for a week after that visit.  But the ozone changed from an approaching thunderstorm is enough to get me. But on the subject of perimeter smoke, I have called in the Texas Natural Resouce people and I have gotten alot of illegal burning stopped.  One guy even went to jail for his illegal burning and others fined.  But the legal burning is what is affecting me. It just seems this day and age with all the crap over clean air you would think the states would not allow burning of trash.  But I am still working on that issue here and most of my neighbors now wait till I go out of town or gone for the day before they burn their brush. I wondered if a mask like firefighters wear would filter out the smoke when its light and just leave when its heavy. But anyway thanks everyone for their suggestions.  I will take them into account when deciding what to try to do. Kathy

If you can prove the trash thing (photos) and are in the US, the EPA might be able to assist. My friend used Austin air filters, until the local trash burner got the best of her (cracked rib from coughing for days on end). What kind of heating do you have? The city’s not necessarily any better.  Isn’t here with wood fireplaces, potbelly stoves, campfires etc. Your exhaust fans might actually be making it worse, if they’re exhausting outdoors (sending warm air outdoors and thereby creating a negative pressure situation so that more smokey air seeps in/faster). Maybe you need to consult an expert on "home-sealing" and another on HVAC system? J

I had the same problems living here in the country, espically with mountain fires in the fall.  You need a very large carbon filter.  Carbon filters filter out organic things like smoke, I found one from the internet that is filled with charcoal, and supposed to last 5 years, its supposed to be large enough to clean the whole house, but i have a 2 floor house, and keep it in my bedroom when the fires start and other times I keep it in the central room I don’t think it could actually clean the whole house, but it was about 300 dollars, this was 2 years ago, maybe cheaper somewhere now. Hope you find something that can help you. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> I live in the country but when the wind blows the wrong way and several > people have their fireplaces going, the smoke seeps into the house.  I > actually have to get up and leave, no matter what time it is.  My house is > new, but smoke gets thru anyway.  And if it’s not fireplaces, someone is > burning their trash, brush, etc.  Has anyone figured a way to stay in the > house and get rid of the smoke.  The exhaust fan in the kitchen and bath is > not enough.  I don’t see an air filter making much difference.  Anyway, just > looking for ideas.  Tired of walking aroud Walmart at midnight. > Kathy

A HVAC system with a carbon filter that you can turn on to circulate the air. You would also need to have your house checked for leaky anything. Please note that if you do seal your house completely there will be no way for fresh air to come in and you’ll have to do it manually. Of course you fail to mention that this applies to tobacco smoke only. (Something that should never be in the home of an asthmatic in the first place. You also fail to mention that your product produces ozone – an OSHA registered hazardous chemical and EPA registered _pollutant_. Next you fail to mention that people with allergies and/or asthma are hypersensitive to the effects of ozone exposure.  And that the levels of ozone your product emits are _known_ to be harmful to those people. Now, since tobacco smoke is the _only_ thing that your product can be claimed to be effective on – I have a question for you. Ozone eliminates the chemicals that make up tobacco smoke by causing a chemical reaction that changes them into other chemicals.  What are those breakdown chemicals and are they more or less dangerous than the tobacco smoke? In summary, we know just what kind of scum you are to be willing to endanger other people’s health in order to get money from them.  Your product is a known scam that Consumer Reports states should not be used in areas where human beings are present.  The EPA has concluded that they simply do not work, and the FTC has successfully sued the maker of one of the leading brands of ozone generators for fraudulent advertising. Please go crawl back under that rock you came from. — We make war so we may live in peace. Aristotle
