Asthma is a chronic medical condition which can be controlled, but not cured. As for better places to live. It depends on your particular triggers. People have reported that a few years after moving to escape asthma triggers their bodies simply found new things to react to. ‘Reply to’ address changed to foil email spammers.

Hi, I too use Prilosec for acid reflux. My experience with Prilosec has not been that good. Prilosec has caused some bowel problems, I must use Metamucil fiber therapy for regularity. My diet has always had a good fiber intake, but when Prilosec therapy was started the bowels became a problem (stool was like a rock). I am told that a medicine holiday is necessary for Prilosec. In communicating with my physician, he stated that a holiday would be given after long term use. Surprised he agreed with the pharmacist in the use of Zantac for this holiday. My tested pH was 5.6% as compared to normal at 3.4 % thus diagnosis was for abnormal gastroesophagelgeal reflux. The physician stated that Prilosec and elevation of the head of the bed was necessary. A change in my diet had already been made for cholesterol and triglycerides problems. This diet was slightly modified again. I have used Prilosec for about six weeks, my asthma is still a problem. Living with asthma SUCKS, but to live requires one to learn to adjust.

Since then, a cousin to Prilosec has been developed: Prevacid (lanzoprazole). Same acid-blocking capability as Prilosec, but even easier to tolerate with fewer side effects. (Although the capsule is not as pretty-looking.) That’s what I take. But I still need to modify my diet; I can still regurgitate stomach contents (i.e. bits of my last meal) and unconsciously aspirate them into my windpipe. And that material is irritating enough to trigger coughing attacks, even though the acid was eliminated. — Steven D. Get doctor to prescribe Propulsid. Its exclusively for reflux. Tagamet is for heart burn.
Response:
Propulsid is NOT exclusively for reflux. I give it to my CAT to make her colon contract…I was prescribed prilosec for my reflux. And by the way, heart burn is the layman’s term for reflux…. the burning sensation is the acid from you stomach backtracking up your esophogus all the way to your volcal cords and possibly beyond. I was scoped for reflux… and diagnoisis was that my vocal cords were singed therefore I was experiencing it… which was exacerbating my asthma… but not the cause of my asthma. Before Prilosec I tried them all. Nothing worked better then Prilosec for me. One small capsule a day, and what a pretty purple. Sheldon
