The main long term side effect to watch out for is from your High Dose of fluticasone (Flixotide 500 x 2 = 1,000 mcg). This is a steroid and can have side effects similar to oral steroids like prednisone (osteoporosis, diabetes, weight gain, high blood pressure, glaucoma, etc) The highest strength version of fluticasone in the US is the 250 mcg version (Flovent Rotadisc). Greater than 3 puffs of this version is considered a High Dose (750 mcg/day). It’s nice your treatment is working; however you really should give up the 2 cigarettes; and try to get the asthma under control with just 1 puff/day of the Flixotide 500.
