Tedral & pre-employment drug screen problem
Question:
Many different substances can give the same test results, it’s in the interpretation., For example, a toxicologist in Canada can view a test and suspect poison while one in the United States would look at the same test and suspect recreational drugs (it depends on what they’re looking for), So if they can’t tell you what drug was found sue the lab. You could have had a gin and tonic the night before (quinine is used to cut dope and its presence raises flags during a test) or eaten a poppy seed roll. Why are you taking Tedral? As a former Tedral users I can assure you they’re are far better medications available today.
Response:
Just this week I applied for a job which I was offered pending a urine test for drugs. I take NO recreational drugs, but the urine test has come back positive thereby jeopardizing the job offer. I am sure that the ingredients in Tedral (which I listed in my application as a drug I have recently taken) are what triggered this. I know that Tedral is no longer available, but I still have some and it has helped me for more than 40 years. Has anyone experienced a similar problem and/or thought about this? Advise please. Mimi

Do you take Daypro ? Tedral–an old combination asthma drug no longer available in US. http://www.cis.ohio-state.edu/hypertext/faq/usenet/medicine/asthma/me… alt.support.asthma FAQ: Asthma Medications "Tedral theophylline, ephedrine HCl, tablets (Can), phenobarbital no longer manufactured in US" I used to take Tedral years ago. One of the problems with combo drugs is you can’t individually adjust the doses of the components. The theophylline is for long term asthma control, the ephedrine for quick relief. Ephedrine is a stimulant drug banned in the Olympics. Phenobarbital is a barbiturate (CNS depressant). Doesn’t help control asthma at all, it’s there to counter the effects of the ephedrine, a CNS stimulant. Either the ephedrine or phenobarbital could have triggered the drug test. Better to see a doctor and get a scrip for newer drugs that are more effective. Commonly, inhalers are used to target the lungs without affecting the whole body. Theophylline SR is available as TheoDur; I take it, along with inhalers. Requires a prescription. Ellis

Find out what you tested positive FOR; then, find out if taking Tedral could cause this. Armed with that, you can readily substantiate that you are not taking illegal drugs. Chris Owens
