Back pain
Question:
Hi, Greetings! Eventhough there are lot of queries and answers for the Backpain, I would like to post my case. I am 26 old male working in computer industry for the past 4and half years. Six months back I got severe back pain. I consulted my doctor and took a MRI scan. It was confirmed that I have L4-L5 disc prolapse and a also in L5-S1(minor). I was in bed rest for a month. But evenafter that i get leg pain. I dont have back pain now. I understand that it could be because of the Sciatica problem. My mother also has the same disc prolapse problem. I want to know a few things. 1.Is this hereditary? 2.I am unmarried now. Will there be any problem after marriage becos of sex? FYI whenver I masturbate I get leg pain? How is it realted to this? 3.What are the Do’s and Dont’s 4.Is there any cure in Ayurveda (Ancient Indian medicine) I appreciate your reply. Regards Bas

I have a couple of recommendations. I have recently also suffered with similar pain in my lower back and legs. There a couple of essential oils and blends I recommend that might be used with massages, but first of all you need to look at your work station and see if it fits you. You may be positioning yourself in a way that exaserbates your condition. You should be able to sit comfortably while working. If your screen is too close, or too low, or your chair is not properly supporting you, this may be causing a lot of your problems. Repetitive motion is one of the primary causes of injuries on the job today. Are you resting, stretching, moving around during your work time, or do you sit in front of the screen all day? Balance is important if you want health. There are a number of essential oils that will go a long way towards helping with your pain, but it is just as important to look at exercises that might stretch and relieve tension from areas that are bothering you. Specific exercise options include walking backwards (it seems to relieve the pressure on pinched nerves and herniated discs in some cases) and stretching your hamstrings and the muscles in your hips and buttocks. You should probably consult a physical therapist for specific ideas. I found that crunches, not sit ups, helped to strengthen my abdomindal muscles. That supported my lower back and brought me from severe to moderate pain levels. My wife and I have been using the following theraputic grade essential oils and oil blends to relieve the symptoms. I will caution that there is a huge difference between "essential oils" you can buy in a health food store and theraputic grade essential oils. As seems to be true in so many aspects of life, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Mainly, theraputic grade oils are steam distilled at low temperature. No chemicals are used in the process, so no chemical residue remains in what you buy. It is very important to consider this if your truly want the health enhancing qualities from the oils you buy: Birch Oil diluted or blended with a base oil such as Sweet Almond Oil: For the money, it is probably the best buy in relief of severe back pain. Essentially Yours Pain Relief Balm; an excellent multi-spectrum pain relief product which is especially good for relieving muscle tension and moderate pain. PanAway, which includes a powerful topical anesthetic oil extracted from the helichrysum plant. It is a very effective pain relief product. It is not cheap, but if it is within your budget, it is very much worth the cost. Relieve-It: An oil combination that is specifically designed to be applied during deep tissue massage. All of these products and a section of recommended exercises for Carpal Tunnel, neck and upper back problems are available at www.essyrs.com. If you have any further questions about how essential oils can help you to manage and overcome your pain, the e-mail for that site is I highly recommend you visit the site, and sincerely hope this information in this message will lead you to a more comfortable physical existence. I haven’t heard that it is. >2.I am unmarried now. Will there be any problem after marriage becos >of sex? FYI whenver I masturbate I get leg pain? How is it realted to >this?
Best answered by a therapist, but the situation is not hopeless
>3.What are the Do’s and Dont’s
Dont: lift ANYTHING without bending your legs at the knees- make sure the load is not overly heavy- about a 20 lb limit, dont put sideways or twisting force on your back eg putting groceries in back seat of car, do only mild exercises, and then only if you feel your back is not reacting- situps are definately out, swimming-gently is good and just plain walking if you dont get spasms across the lumbar region- do consult a Dr about mild back exercises- charts are usually around depicting good back exercises, do get a medium firm mattress which doesnt sag, dont stand for long periods-allways keep your back moving within pain free limits if possible, traction is not recommended as it can give unreasonable expectations- at first you feel much batter but the pain returns unless there is a vertebrae out of position- so I guess i’m saying slight traction only not heavy traction (from experience), avoid sudden jerky movements involving your lower spine, You’ll find your body develops its own protective behaviour, designerd to limit back events which go onto a painfull event. >4.Is there any cure in Ayurveda (Ancient Indian medicine)
Sorry, know nothing about this one > I appreciate your reply. >Regards >Bas
Hope this helps,… Ivan

Hi I am new to this group and am asking this on behalf of my sister-in-law who suffers from very painful which start from her toes and go up the leg to the right buttock, causing extreme pain. She has tried everything including acupuncture and injections to the lower spine but all to no avail, does anybody out there have any idea what it could be?
Response:
Hi Hilary – It’s kind of dangerous to rely upon *us* (meaning everyone in the world with net access and the inclination to play doctory
for a diagnosis. What does her doctor(s) say it is? What diagnostic tests has she had? If she’s had injections, I’m sure she’s seen at least one doc. Tell us the whole history. The more detail you provide, the better our responses are likely to be. :) Cush http://pages.prodigy.net/cushman4/badback.htm . . .Bad Backs http://www.iso-trac.com . . . Hi,physical therapy with a reasonable amount of traction with abdomen and lower back strengthing exercises is usually what most doctors start with.12 weeks of it made my condition worse, but its worth the try.Sometimes certain types of steroids along with this therapy is beneficial.T.H.

She may have sciatic nerve damage.I have the same pain from my toes up my left leg.I have L5S1 herniated disc,L 2-3 ruptured and degeneratiied discs.I just had Interdiscal electrothermal Therapy surgery done on Apr.30th.I feel this surgery which left me with bandaids on my back offers the most hope to end the back pain and may cotribute to a lessening of leg pain also. This surgery has been effective in 80% of cases. Check search engines on this procedure. Ps 31:1-In you O Jehovah,I have taken refuge…

I have posted on this ng before and I would like to do so again. Maybe somebody out there can give me advise on my illness. I have had leg and feet pain now for over two years and now it’s getting worst by the week. It feels like a tight bandaround my waist and in my lower back. My feet hurt constantly and I can’t walk for long period of times. I have sensory loss of feelings from the kness down. Waking up in morning my knees to my feet hurt, both extremities. The tightness around the waist and stomach. Ache in buttocks and upper thigh, around to sides of thighs and sometimes my left leg feels like I am walking through water with some resistance. Does anybody else have these symptoms?? I would appreciate any help and information. I do have a doctors app’t tomorrow but would like to have a little information before I go. Can it be a disk problem or maybe muscle?? Wouldn’t wish this upon anybody. Appreciate anybody’s help on this. It really concerns me thank you Bill

Have you been checked for Lyme Disease. Besides my "usual" back/neck/arm/leg neuropathic pain, I also have intense achiness in my knees, elbows and ankles. I haven’t yet seen my doctor (my appointment is August 5th) about this but I would assume that because of this new type of pain, she’ll want to check my Lyme titer. Lyme Disease can mimic flu- and arthritis-like symptoms. It can be treated with antibiotics but the longer it is left untreated, the worse the symptoms may be and the longer they last (an may even be lifelong). Just a thought. Hope you find out what the problem is and obtain relief soon. Lorraine

That sounds quite a bit like what I had and it was a herniated S1. The S1 affects the entire length of the leg and the feet as well as the buttocks. My buttocks became very tight and painful to touch. My hamstrings also hurt as well as my calves. S2 also affect the legs and buttocks and S3, S4 and S5 affect mostly the buttocks according to a Chi Gung back pain book I have. Hopefully you just have some tight muscles that need to be relaxed. A deep tissue massage might help. Here they cost about $45 for an hour, but are not covered by insurance. There are also books on self massage that may help you. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > I have posted on this ng before and I would like to do so again.
