Another ? about 18 month old son

Categories: Asthma Treatment

Question:

Hi All As I said in my previous report ( to which I have had no reply ) I am a 29 yr Old male in the UK suffering since birth. I was always told by my doctor that your body changes in 7 year cycles so I then at 15 years I was diagnosed as a Chronic sufferer after suffering a pneumothorax. Might be worth asking your Doc if this 7 year cycle holds any substance. Regards PJ

Response:

: Hi,  I just wanted to let you know about my husband.  He suffered with : terrible asthma. I put him on pycnogenol and he very very rarely has to use : his puffer.
: : I did alot of research and found out lots of good things about pycnogenol : and how it helps asthma sufferers.
Looks like a lot of snake oil, err pine-bark oil anyway, to me. The usual anti-oxidant anti-inflammatory type spiel on all those web-sites with _no_ actual citations to any documents despite all the hype about it being "scientifically shown" etc. The details, as far as I can determine is that this is a mix of pine bark* (from a particular hard-to-find pine, of course), grape seed and some other anti-oxidant bearing stuff—none of them anywhere near as good as fresh fruit and vegetables, extra virgin olive oil and honey. Since a good diet contains lots of the former and usually enough of the latter, these supplements should be completely unnecessary. Cheers, Kin Hoong *With properties which morph from site to site.

: It’s funny how the header implies an 18 month old son, but you : open about your husband.  So tell us – what are you selling? Snake… err pine bark oil. Cheers, Kin Hoong

I have a 4 yr old who has had asthma since about the same age, 18 mos. I was told that since he developed it so young that he might grow out of it.  I don’t know whether or not I should believe that but I sure hope he does.  He has developed more allergies with his age and during the fall and spring his cough increases.  I have to up his dosage at these times or when he is sick, to avoid pneumonia.  We are doing ok so far, he really is just a normal kid right now. nicamrem —Share what you know.
