A.N.A. Case Report on asthma
Question:
>I just finished reading avery interesting articlein the August 1997 >issue of the Journal of the American Nutraceutical Association. The >article is a Case Report that "Observed Improvements in Respiratory Air >Flow in Asthmatics Following Dietary Supplementation" The study was >base on 2 female patients both with chronic asthma since childhood.
Can you please post more information on the article, such as 1) the credentials of the authors, 2) what objective measurements were used in the study, 3) why the study group was so small? Basically this is not a scientific study. This is merely more testimonials (advertising). BTW, can you give us more information on just who the ‘American Nutraceutical Association’ is? I have never heard of this outfit and kinda wonder what their charter is and who the officers are (and the officers medical qualifications). ‘Reply to’ address changed to foil email spammers.

That *is* interesting, since a sample of two is statistically meaningless. On occasion, I’ve seen similar results presented, but only as a theory that would need more testing before it was given as fact. And that’s in a profession (marketing) where lives are rarely at stake. I want to see my asthma get better, but I’d doubt any journal that thought a sample of two was useful. I just finished reading avery interesting articlein the August 1997 issue of the Journal of the American Nutraceutical Association. The article is a Case Report that "Observed Improvements in Respiratory Air Flow in Asthmatics Following Dietary Supplementation" The study was base on 2 female patients both with chronic asthma since childhood. One was 44 yeatrs old and the other was 59 years old. The 44 year old had steroid dependent asthma since had affected her since infancy. She started a program of dietary supplementation "while in her usual state of shortness of breath with wheezing. The response was "immediate" with her being able to exercise, " apreviously unthinkable event. After only 2 weeks she was able to exercise for 30 minutes! The 59 year old averaged about 3 hospitalizations per year and required monthly visits to the emergency room. She carried a SVN to work and took Albutrol, Azmacort, Serevent, Tilade daily and Ventolin as needed. After 2 weeks of the supplemetation she was able to go back to work without the SVN machine. Two months later she was off all medications and still uses none! This article is something that everyone should read. Imagine if all one had to do was to supplement there diet with the nutraceuticals they used! If anyone would like to read this Journal, there are other reports that are just as interesting, just e-mail me your address and I will be happy to send you a copy. Good health, Rudy
